As part of the "Interview with an Expert" section of the community of logisticians of the south of Russia, the founder and commercial director of the First Monitoring Company LLC, Sergey Novikov, spoke
February 18, 2025
Sergey, last year your company celebrated 15 years of presence in the market of IT products for transport monitoring. Tell us how the idea of creating the First Monitoring Company came about? What prerequisites and market needs did you see in 2009, when you founded the company?
Thank you for your question! Fifteen years on the transport monitoring market is a really serious period, especially considering that today in Russia there are more than 2,000 companies providing similar services. To withstand competition, maintain a leading position and constantly develop is, of course, the merit of the team.
The history of the First Monitoring Company began back in 2007, when Alexander Kononkov and I worked for one of the largest Krasnodar companies. The company had more than 150 units of its own transport, which were used all over Russia, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to control its operation. The company had already tried to develop a monitoring system on its own, but the existing solution did not meet the needs of the business. Alexander and I were assigned to supervise this area, and in a year we developed an existing product that really worked and brought benefits.
Seeing the potential of this product, a strategic decision was made to separate the direction into a separate business in order to offer the service to other transport companies. However, due to management actions, an external manager appeared in the newly created organization, with whom our views on development did not coincide. As a result, in October 2009, we decided to create our own company and launched the First Monitoring Company. In those years, the market was just beginning to form - transport companies did not trust monitoring systems, did not understand their value and often refused even free testing. Each client had to be convinced for several months, but we believed in the technology and gradually won the trust of the market.
