An updated state forest registry will begin operating in Russia on January 1, 2025. The resolution approving the rules for its maintenance was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The electronic register will display data on forestry areas, information on timber, transactions with it and its processed products, information on storage points for harvested timber and timber processing facilities. The register will also contain forest maps, analytical information and other data.
The creation of the register will allow government agencies to receive prompt and reliable information on the condition and use of forests, and to effectively plan and implement measures to protect, preserve and restore forests and afforestation.
“Russia has unique natural resources, and we need to build a well-thought-out and balanced system of control over their use,” Mikhail Mishustin noted during a meeting with deputy prime ministers on August 28.
The registry will operate on the basis of the federal state information system of the forest complex, which is being created, the operator of which is Rosleskhoz.
The signed resolution is necessary for the implementation of the provisions of the Forest Code, which will come into force on January 1, 2025.
