The story of how a KAMAZ driver cheated GLONASS

It happened in the autumn of distant 2010. We, still a young Company with little experience, equipped a Client’s vehicle, who was delivering construction materials, with a GLONASS waliot system (at that time, “PMK Navigator”).

I’ll say right away that anyone who wants to cheat or doesn’t like it is immediately visible. So one Kamaz driver, let’s call him Ivanovich, told our engineer “straight ahead” – “I’ll screw your GPS in no time.” Well, we laughed to ourselves and forgot about it.

Two weeks passed – the Kamaz began to disappear, and harshly, it was driving – the track is excellent. Bam, out of nowhere – it disappeared, and even in motion. Then – bam – it appeared. On its own. The device lives its own life.
The client called, we got tense. We said, we will observe together. Again, a couple of days later the same situation. We already held a meeting with the technical department and started thinking about options. There were about 40-45. But the very first thing is to go out and check the connection.

Kamaz arrived at the base – Ivanych, a familiar figure to us, proudly opened the door and said – “Please, have a look!” We crawled around this damn car up and down – found nothing. Both we and the Client were left with a bad feeling. Ivanych, the only one who is happy.

Okay, we think, while we were quietly examining the car – our engineer hid a cache on the battery under the passenger seat. And we left upset. We will watch again.

We look the next day, Ivanych “disappeared” every day or two, and then, having gained courage, he began to disappear from the monitor every day. You call him – I’m driving, everything is ok – your GPS is lying. Damn strange.

We look at the movement history, and GLONASS has disappeared and the cache. The range of vandalism options has sharply decreased. We realized that Ivanych was using a portable FM transmitter, via a 12/24 converter, plugged into the cigarette lighter. And the wave on some radio stations echoed the frequency of the GLONASS receiver. And jammed it.

In general, we found the reason for the driver’s joy. From that moment on, Ivanych “has no face”. He cursed at us, got a slap on the wrist from the boss. And… no, he didn’t quit, but he doesn’t really like us from that moment on. The client is happy
